Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design and develop applications used to operate and support medical devices. This role involves building cross-platform applications, integrating with BLE devices, working with real-time data streams, and contributing to the UI/UX and data architecture that underpin reliable clinical software.
The current stack uses Flutter/Dart, though prior experience with it is not required. Target platforms include Windows, macOS, and iOS. You'll work closely with a small product and engineering team, contributing across system design, debugging, and long-term maintainability.
Development Environment
The team uses AI-assisted development tools to accelerate routine tasks such as refactors, boilerplate generation, and code navigation. Engineers remain responsible for system design, correctness, and reviewing generated code — we treat these tools as productivity aids, not a substitute for engineering judgment.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement software that interfaces with BLE devices and sensors
Develop and maintain cross-platform applications (currently Flutter/Dart)
Design systems that process and visualise real-time data
Contribute to UI/UX design and implement clear, accessible interfaces across platforms
Design and maintain database schemas for device telemetry, session data, and configuration state
Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code
Debug complex issues across application, device, and communication layers
Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making
Support verification, validation, and documentation processes with QA and regulatory teams
Required Skills & Experience
Several years of professional software engineering experience
Strong programming skills in one or more languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java, Go, Rust, Dart)
Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and debugging
Some exposure to UI/UX principles and database or data modelling fundamentals
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to learn new languages and frameworks quickly
Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems
Must have current Australian work rights
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Bluetooth/BLE or embedded device integration
Experience with cross-platform application development
Familiarity with regulated software environments (medical, automotive, aerospace, etc.)
Exposure to relational or embedded databases (e.g. SQLite, PostgreSQL)
Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
What We Offer
Opportunity to build software that directly supports assistive medical technology
Small, collaborative engineering team with broad ownership across the stack
Competitive salary and benefits
Flexible work arrangements depending on project needs
