RHEL Systems Engineer – Remote

Full Working Rights Required, Australia based

We’re looking for an experienced RHEL Systems Engineer to join a high‑performing operations team supporting a mix of production and lab environments. This role is fully remote within Australia and ideal for someone who thrives in a structured, SLA‑driven environment and enjoys deep technical problem‑solving.

About the Role

You’ll act as the primary L2/L3 RHEL OS support engineer across approximately 25 VMs, delivering end‑to‑end operational support, patching, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation. You’ll work closely with offshore teams, manage critical incidents, and ensure systems remain secure, stable, and compliant.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • L2/L3 RHEL support for 25 production and lab VMs

  • Manage and resolve OS‑level incidents via the client’s ITSM platform

  • Troubleshoot across compute, storage, and network layers

  • Monitor OS performance and implement tuning recommendations

  • Lead quarterly patch cycles — MOP creation, lab testing, validation, production rollout

  • Conduct post‑patch validation and manage rollback procedures

  • Review Nessus vulnerability scans and coordinate remediation

  • Maintain OS configuration management and change records

  • Deliver monthly operational reports to management

  • Provide 24/7 on‑call support for P1 incidents

  • Coordinate ticket handover with offshore (India‑based) support teams.

What We’re Looking For

  • 4+ years in RHEL/Linux managed services or operational support

  • Strong hands‑on experience with RHEL 9.x

  • Background in SLA‑driven environments

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools

  • Solid understanding of the Linux patch lifecycle — MOP, rollback, validation

  • Knowledge of CIS hardening and vulnerability remediation

  • OS‑level networking fundamentals — DNS, NTP, firewalls, routing

  • Experience working with offshore teams

  • RHCSA certification (preferred)

  • Telco or managed services experience (advantageous)
