The Online Fuel Company (OFC) is on a mission to be the ultimate technical solution partner for mobility retailers and fleet card operators around the world. Through our EzySt platform, we are revolutionising, digitalising and simplifying the entire mobility purchase process — for retailers, for fleets, and for the hundreds of thousands of customers who interact with our apps every day.

Our platform is live at hundreds of locations across Australia and powers everything from pay-in-app and pay-in-store experiences to in-vehicle ordering, merchant management portals, fleet management tools, fuel discounts and in-store promotions, and EV charging. We've already secured our first offshore customers, and our sights are firmly set on the global market.

We're a tech scaleup with serious ambition — and we've just secured all the funding we need to make it happen, following our recent acquisition by payments business Mobilata. With backing in place and the runway to scale, we're growing the team with people who want to help us redefine what mobility commerce looks like.

Our culture & values

We don't just keep cars moving — we move the whole industry forward. We do it with a small-team energy, a high-performance mindset, and a genuine care for the partners and customers who rely on us.

Our values shape how we show up every day:

  • Quality — We create better solutions through a high-quality, disciplined approach.

  • Integrity — We are committed to doing the right things, even when no one is watching.

  • Partner of Choice — We build impactful, rewarding partnerships and consult deeply for the best outcomes.

  • Ambitious — We are creative, ambitious, innovative, and committed to making positive differences for our partners and their customers.

  • Respect — We protect and celebrate the diversity in our business and the individual talents of every person on our team.

  • Care — The safety of each other, our partners and our customers is fundamental to everything we operate, design and deliver.

Our place is one of collaboration, ownership and bold thinking — and rather than have you blend in, we want to help you unleash your full potential.

What you'll do

As a .NET Engineer at OFC, you will play a central role in developing the EzySt Pump Agent — the Windows service that sits on-site at every participating fuel station, bridging our cloud EzySt API and the physical forecourt. The Pump Agent manages pump authorisations, monitors dispenser status, processes Pay at the Pump transactions and reports fuel price changes in real time. When the EzySt experience works seamlessly for a customer at the pump, it's because the Pump Agent did its job — quietly, reliably, every single time.

This role is genuinely interesting engineering work. You'll write modern C# / .NET code that has to talk fluently in two directions at once — outbound to our cloud API over HTTPS and persistent WebSockets, and locally to a range of Forecourt Controllers (FCCs) from different vendors, each with its own SDK, protocol quirks and operational behaviour. You'll work with the EzySt Pump Agent codebase as a living product, evolving it to support new FCC integrations, improve reliability, harden security, and unlock new product capabilities as we scale across Australia and into global markets.

Key Responsibilities

Pump Agent Development & Maintenance

  • Design, build and maintain features in the EzySt Pump Agent — a Windows service written in C# / .NET — ensuring it remains performant, reliable, and maintainable as it grows.

  • Write clean, well-tested, production-grade C# code, and contribute to architectural decisions that keep the Pump Agent scalable across hundreds of sites and the FCC variants they run.

  • Take part in code review and design discussions, applying AI-assisted development tools with sound judgement — including knowing when they accelerate delivery and when they introduce risk that needs active management in a system that handles real transactions on real forecourts.

  • Maintain and evolve unit, integration and protocol-level testing, including simulation harnesses that exercise FCC behaviours without needing a live forecourt.

Forecourt Controller (FCC) Integration

  • Develop and maintain the Pump Agent's integrations with the range of Forecourt Controller platforms EzySt supports, each over TCP/IP on the local site network.

  • Work with vendor-provided SDKs and DLLs, including native interop where required, and translate vendor protocol differences into clean, consistent behaviour inside the Pump Agent.

  • Build and extend Pump Agent abstractions so adding support for new FCC types is a contained, well-understood engineering effort — not a rewrite.

  • Manage SDK-specific operational requirements — connection lifecycles, heartbeats, multi-port configurations and reconnection behaviour — accurately and defensively.

Cloud Connectivity & Real-Time Communication

  • Develop and maintain the Pump Agent's communication with the EzySt API server — RESTful API over HTTPS for transaction, status and pricing updates, and a persistent WebSocket (WSS) connection for real-time Pay at the Pump authorisation requests pushed from the cloud.

  • Implement robust connection management, reconnection logic, retry/backoff behaviour and graceful degradation for the long-running TLS-secured connection between each site and the EzySt API.

  • Ensure the Pump Agent's startup sequence — FCC connection, pump configuration retrieval, fuel price retrieval, cloud connection, configuration upload — is correct, observable and resilient to site-network conditions.

Reliability, Field Deployment & Diagnostics

  • Build the Pump Agent to be operable in the field — strong logging, structured telemetry, meaningful diagnostics, sensible defaults, and clear failure modes that IT administrators and our internal support team can reason about quickly.

  • Partner with the DevOps Lead and team on deployment, packaging, versioning and update strategy for a Windows service running across many remote sites.

  • Participate in incident response and post-incident review for production issues affecting the Pump Agent estate, and turn what you learn into engineering improvements that reduce future incident risk.

  • Contribute to security hardening — TLS configuration, dependency hygiene, secrets handling, and reducing the Pump Agent's attack surface in line with the obligations of operating in a regulated payments and mobility environment.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with the DevOps Lead, broader engineering team, product, and the EzySt API platform engineers to keep cloud and on-site sides of the system aligned.

  • Engage with FCC vendors, system integrators and on-site IT administrators when integration questions need answers from the people closest to the hardware.

  • Champion continuous improvement — better tooling, better tests, less toil, simpler code — and bring an informed, critical view on where AI-assisted development genuinely adds value to a low-level integration codebase versus where careful human judgement remains essential.

  • Mentor and learn from your peers — share what you discover about FCC quirks, contribute to internal documentation, and help raise the team's collective depth in the Pump Agent domain.

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

Qualifications

  • Solid C# / .NET engineering capability, with the ability to write clean, well-tested, production-grade code in a long-lived service codebase.

  • A pragmatic, systems-thinking approach — comfort working across application code, network protocols, vendor SDKs and operational realities, and the judgement to know when to dig deeper.

  • Strong problem-solving and debugging instincts, especially in scenarios where the bug only shows up against a particular FCC, on a particular site, under a particular load condition.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to translate low-level integration detail into language that product, operations and partner stakeholders can act on.

  • A genuine ownership mindset — you take responsibility for what you build, you care about the customer at the pump on the other end of the platform, and you don't ship problems forward.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of professional .NET software development experience, with at least part of that on long-lived production services rather than one-off projects.

  • Demonstrated experience building or maintaining Windows services, background workers, or long-running .NET processes — including familiarity with their deployment, logging, telemetry and operational characteristics.

  • Experience with integrating third-party SDKs, vendor DLLs, or native libraries from .NET is advantageous, as is some familiarity with interop scenarios such as P/Invoke or equivalent.

  • Practical experience with network programming in .NET, including HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, raw TCP/IP sockets, TLS, and the kinds of connection lifecycle concerns that come with persistent connections.

  • Experience writing automated tests for code that talks to external systems — including unit, integration, and simulation/mock-based tests that don't depend on live hardware.

  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tooling, with a disciplined approach to validating AI-generated code in a system where correctness, security and reliability genuinely matter.

  • Exposure to forecourt, payments, IoT, industrial, or any environment where software talks to real hardware in real time is highly desirable — but not required if the rest of the profile is strong.

Skills

  • Modern C# / .NET (.NET Framework 4.8 and .NET 5+), with a confident grasp of async/await, concurrency, dependency injection, and idiomatic .NET design patterns.

  • Networking fundamentals — HTTPS, WebSockets, TCP/IP, TLS — including a feel for what good connection management, retry logic and graceful degradation actually look like in production.

  • Windows service development, packaging and operational lifecycle.

  • Working with vendor SDKs and DLLs, including native interop where required.

  • Testing in .NET — unit testing frameworks, mocking, integration testing, and simulation harnesses for hardware-adjacent code.

  • Source control, branching and code review workflows (Git), including review practices appropriate for codebases where AI-assisted contributions are routine.

  • Logging, diagnostics and telemetry instrumentation for services that need to be operable in the field.

  • AI-assisted development tooling used responsibly — output validation, security review, and the discipline to evaluate generated code on its merits, not its convenience.

What we offer you

If you love what you do, you should love where you do it. At OFC, we offer:

  • A competitive salary commensurate with your skills, experience and the market.

  • The chance to do genuinely meaningful work on a platform that's already changing the mobility industry — the Pump Agent is one of the most operationally critical components of EzySt, and your work will be felt at every site we run.

  • A flexible hybrid working culture — three days a week with the team in our Sydney office, two days wherever you do your best work.

  • Real ownership and influence — small enough that your work moves the needle, big enough to back you with the right people, tools and partners, with fresh runway from our acquisition by Mobilata.

  • Modern tooling and a mandate to keep it that way — including the opportunity to help shape how we adopt AI-augmented development practices responsibly across the team.

  • Growth and development opportunities, including support for professional certifications, conferences and ongoing learning.

  • A team of curious, ambitious, kind humans who like solving hard, hands-on engineering problems together.

Our commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity

OFC is committed to building a globally inclusive company where every person is treated fairly, recognised for their individuality, supported to do their best work, and empowered to reach their full potential.

We believe in understanding and respecting differences — including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, culture, age, neurodiversity and physical ability. Diversity makes our business better, our product stronger and our team more human. Everyone at OFC has a shared responsibility to respect and support a genuinely inclusive environment, every day.
