Help shape the future of health services

At Honeysuckle Health, weʼre on a mission to help people lead healthier lives by connecting them with effective, affordable and personalised care. Through digital and telephonic health programs, data-driven insights and strong industry partnerships, weʼre building a more connected and value-driven healthcare system for all Australians.

Weʼre a wholly owned member of the nib Group and are merging with nibʼs digital health company, Midnight Health, to form an integrated health services organisation offering a broad suite of health programs and services.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be central to building and improving the consumer products that sit across our healthcare services. Your focus is engineering excellence and product delivery — shipping high-quality full-stack features that create an exceptional patient experience.

We move quickly. We work in short iteration cycles, ship often, and you'll see your work in front of patients within days or weeks rather than months. Priorities can shift as we learn, so you're someone who's comfortable making sensible calls with incomplete information and a strong bias to action.

You'll turn the concepts developed by our product and design teams into real, working software. A strong grasp of modern web development and mobile-first principles, with a genuine focus on security and good service design, matters a great deal in this role.

Your day-to-day centre of gravity is product delivery. Because we run lean, you'll also be comfortable getting into our AWS infrastructure and Terraform when a feature calls for it, and you'll help keep our CI/CD pipelines healthy so the wider team can ship safely and quickly. You don't need to be a cloud specialist — but you're unafraid of the infrastructure side and happy to own a change end to end.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust full-stack code that powers and improves our digital healthcare platform.
  • Translate UI/UX designs and wireframes into high-quality, reusable component code that elevates the end-user experience.
  • Optimise web and application experiences for varying browsers, device types, speed, and scalability. Ensure all software is stable, secure, resilient, and well-documented, in line with modern engineering ways of working. Help map business needs onto scalable software (and, where relevant, cloud) architecture, and break initiatives into Jira epics and realistic team timelines.
  • Work comfortably across our AWS infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), help monitor system health, and keep our continuous deployment workflows (GitHub Actions) running smoothly.
  • Contribute to story estimation, help prioritise the backlog within the Agile team, and coach and review the work of more junior team members.

Candidate Criteria

  • Education: University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical industry experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' commercial experience in a full-stack software engineering role, with a proven track record of strong product delivery.
  • Technical Stack: Our current stack is below. You don't need every item — we're equally interested in engineers with strong, hands-on experience in comparable technologies who can pick ours up quickly. What matters most is solid engineering fundamentals and a track record of learning new tools fast.
  • Backend: Python and Django (or a similar framework such as FastAPI, Flask, or an equivalent in another language), plus RESTful APIs
  • Frontend: TypeScript and React (or a comparable modern framework such as Vue or Angular)
  • Data: PostgreSQL and SQL (or another relational database)
  • Tooling: Docker
  • Infrastructure (comfortable with, not specialist): You're happy working in AWS and with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and you have a working understanding of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions). You don't need deep cloudspecialist expertise, but you can confidently pick up infrastructure work when a feature requires it.
  • Certifications (Desirable): AWS Certified Developer – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate is well regarded but not required.
