About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior SQL DBA to join a high-performing infrastructure team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with deep on-premises SQL Server expertise, strong troubleshooting capability, and a passion for maintaining high availability, performance, and security of critical database environments.
You’ll play a key role in supporting and optimising enterprise-scale SQL Server environments, ensuring stability across mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities

• Manage and administer SQL Server databases in on-prem environments
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and availability issues
• Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning/testing
• Implement and maintain high availability solutions (Always On, clustering, log shipping)
• Conduct database performance tuning and query optimisation
• Oversee patching, upgrades, and migrations
• Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure seamless operations
• Ensure data security, compliance, and best practice standards are upheld

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Senior SQL DBA in enterprise environments
• Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server (2012–2019+)
• Deep experience managing on-prem SQL Server infrastructure
• Solid understanding of:
  • Backup/recovery strategies
  • High availability (Always On, failover clustering)
  • Performance tuning and monitoring tools
• Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent stakeholder communication

Desirable

• Experience supporting hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure)
• Exposure to database security, compliance, and auditing
• Familiarity with DevOps practices or CI/CD pipelines
