About Anywise
Anywise is a sovereign, wholly Australian-owned technology and services company working at the intersection of defence, government, and emerging technology. Founded by veterans with a mission to do things differently, we mobilise high-performing teams to solve complex capability, technology, and strategic challenges - with ethics at the centre of everything we build.
Our purpose - empowering people and organisations to create a positive impact in the world by enabling better decisions - shapes every product we design and every engagement we take on. Across defence, emergency services, energy, logistics, and infrastructure, we build human-centred solutions that put better decisions in the hands of the people who need them most.
B Corp certified and purpose-driven, we're a diverse team of deep specialists who collaborate broadly - and we're growing.
The Opportunity
We’re on the lookout for a Software Engineer with 3–5 years of experience who brings solid fundamentals and, most importantly, a genuine enthusiasm for learning. You won’t need to tick every box - we care far more about how you think, how you approach problems, and how you work with others than whether you’ve used every tool in our stack.
This is a hybrid role based in Melbourne, with flexibility to work from home alongside time spent collaborating with the team in-office.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working closely with our technical leads and delivery team, you’ll contribute to the design, development, and delivery of software solutions across a range of client engagements. Day to day, you might be building out API integrations, writing clean backend logic, collaborating on database design, or refining a frontend component - often all in the same week.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll bring experience across most of the following - and a willingness to grow in the areas you haven’t touched yet:
Server-side development using Microsoft .NET and C#
Database development skills including both SQL DDL and DML
ORM and data access frameworks such as Entity Framework Core, SQLite PCL
API development and integration - RESTful or otherwise
Architecture and design patterns such as dependency injection, CQRS and the Mediator pattern (e.g. MediatR)
Frontend development with one or more modern frameworks (Vue.js, Angular, React, Blazor or similar) and component libraries like Telerik or PrimeVue
Automated testing using frameworks such as xUnit and Playwright, including unit testing and mocking
CI/CD pipelines - experience here is a bonus, but familiarity is valued
Bonus Points
We’re increasingly doing interesting work in the AI space, and if you’ve dabbled in any of the following, we’d love to hear about it:
Python development
Working with Large Language Models (LLMs) - whether cloud-based or locally hosted
Exposure to AI tooling or building AI-integrated features
This side of the role is evolving, and there’s real opportunity to shape it. If this piques your interest, there’ll be a chance to have a more in-depth conversation with our Lead Data Scientist during the process.
Security Clearance
Given the nature of our work in defence and government, candidates must be eligible to apply for an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Australian citizenship is required to meet this eligibility.
Why Anywise?
Hybrid flexibility - structure your week around what works for you, with the freedom to work remotely when needed while still coming together in the office when it counts.
Innovation with purpose - We build new thinking and architectures for measurable impact, not novelty - including hackathons where your ideas take shape.
Grow across the stack. We give people room to develop across the full stack and into emerging technology areas, including AI.
A great place to work - stocked pantry, team offsites, industry events, and a genuine commitment to making every day enjoyable. Good people, good work, good fun. (And yes, there's a monthly Wordle prize.)
Fair pay, real inclusion. We're committed to paying fairly and building a culture where everyone belongs.
Ready to Apply?
If this sounds like you - or even mostly like you - we’d encourage you to apply. Send through your CV and a brief note about what draws you to the role.
