We are seeking an elite Principal Platform / SRE Engineer for a high-impact, 6-month initial contract with one of Australia’s leading enterprise organisations.

In this role, you will be embedded within a premier engineering team tasked with a critical, large-scale cloud evolution project. The immediate focus is leading the architectural uplift and modernisation of the client's core Azure environments, ensuring their systems are transitioned to the latest cloud features, versions, and top-tier security frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Azure Modernisation & Uplift: Drive the technical strategy and execution to migrate and uplift legacy Azure resources to the newest native Azure services and architectures.
• Database Infrastructure: Architect, optimise, and manage enterprise-grade database environments (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, SQL Server), focusing on high availability, performance tuning, and seamless data tier upgrades.
• Automation & IaC: Standardise and build robust, reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates using Terraform or Bicep to ensure fully automated, zero-touch deployments.
• SRE Culture & Observability: Implement advanced site reliability practices, refining CI/CD pipelines, reducing technical debt, and setting up comprehensive observability dashboards (Azure Monitor, Datadog).
• Technical Steering: Act as the senior technical authority on the project, collaborating closely with local architects and mentoring senior engineering team members.

What We Are Looking For

• Subject Matter Expertise in Azure: Extensive hands-on experience navigating the lifecycle of Azure services, specifically executing version upgrades and service modernisations.
• Strong Database Capabilities: A solid engineering background in database administration, tuning, and cloud-native database migrations.
• Advanced Automation Skills: Expert-level proficiency with IaC (Terraform preferred) and automation scripting (PowerShell, Python).
• Ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced contract environment with minimal hand-holding.
