Python (Django) Engineer — Core Platform Team
AI is part of how we work. Not a talking point, we use it every day to write, debug, and ship code.
You'll use tools like Claude Code alongside Python and Django to build the backend systems behind Zudello's product.
Open to all experience levels.
Zudello is a fast-growing Australian SaaS company helping mid-market and enterprise businesses eliminate manual finance operations.
We work with organisations that are still drowning in invoices, purchase orders, approvals, supplier emails, spreadsheets, and clunky finance processes. Our AI platform fixes that — automating the heavy manual work across procure-to-pay and order-to-cash, and integrating with ERPs like NetSuite, MYOB, Sage Intacct and SAP.
Customers like HUB24 and Storage King use Zudello to process tens of thousands of documents every month with minimal human touch.
We’re in growth mode, scaling fast, winning larger customers, and building something meaningful in a massive category.
We are looking for a Python engineer to join our Core Platform team. You'd build and maintain the backend services, APIs, and shared libraries that the rest of the product depends on. Django, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ.
You'll work with product, engineering, and implementation teams. The work is practical: somebody needs a new API, a queue consumer breaks under load, a shared library needs a cleaner interface.
We use AI tools daily for code generation, debugging, test scaffolding, and exploring approaches. You're expected to use them too, and also expected to actually read what they produce.
Build and maintain backend services and APIs in Python/Django
Use AI tools to move faster on implementation, refactoring, and testing, while owning what gets merged
Work on core platform architecture (we care about things actually scaling, not just calling them "scalable")
Write tests. AI can help find edge cases, but the tests need to be real
Turn business requirements into backend systems other teams build on
Debug production issues, fix bottlenecks, keep services reliable
Write documentation that's actually useful six months later
Collaborate across product, engineering, implementation, and consulting
Solid Python experience, ideally Django
You've built REST APIs, background jobs, and backend systems in production
Comfortable with AI coding tools, uncomfortable blindly trusting them
Think about systems as a whole: how pieces connect, where things will break
Notice edge cases before they become incidents
Want to keep getting better, including picking up new tools and workflows
Communicate clearly with engineers and non-engineers
AI tools are first-class: you'll use Claude and other models as part of your normal workflow
Competitive pay
Work on core systems, not peripheral features
Office at Cathedral Square, Brisbane CBD
A team that's collaborative and respects your time
If you read this and thought "I can do most of that but not all of it," apply anyway. We'd rather hear from someone with the right instincts and gaps we can help fill than wait around for a unicorn.
