Sunstone Advisory is seeking two experienced Lead Business Architects to support the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) in delivering enterprise-wide architectural capability across complex ICT environments.

These roles will lead the creation and evolution of enterprise architecture models that guide strategic transformation, operating model development, and ICT capability alignment. The successful candidates will operate at a senior leadership level, influencing enterprise strategy and ensuring architectural coherence across business and technology domains.

This is a highly strategic role within a mission critical national security environment.

Estimated start date: The estimated start date on or around 01 September 2026, offering an initial 12-month term with the option for extensions available.

Location: Position is available in the ACT. This work is onsite.

Candidates must be an Australian Citizen and already hold a current AGSVA TSPV Security Clearance to commence work in these roles.

Candidates must be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA). The OSA requires a psychological assessment, which involves a questionnaire and an interview. Before submitting an application for this role, the candidate should consider their preparedness for questions that may include the following topics: personal relationships, living circumstances, personal values, financial situation, physical and mental health history including substance use, and any civil and/or military record.

Key Responsibilities

You will take a leading role in:

  • Translating business strategy and objectives into target operating models

  • Assessing current enterprise capabilities and defining required uplift

  • Developing and maintaining architectural models describing:

    • Business processes

    • Information and data flows

    • Technology ecosystems

    • Organisational structures

    • Service and capability interdependencies

  • Aligning enterprise transformation initiatives with technology strategy

  • Embedding enterprise architecture practices to support agile and iterative delivery

  • Validating traceability between business requirements and solution designs

  • Contributing to High-Level and Detailed Designs

  • Ensuring architectural compliance with ASD standards

  • Supporting governance forums and architectural review boards

  • Contributing to System Security Plans, transition and support documentation

  • Maintaining architectural artefacts and enabling knowledge transfer to APS staff

Criteria

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 6+ years in related roles

  • Demonstrated experience operating as a Business Architect in complex ICT enterprise environments

  • Leading enterprise-wide business process improvement initiatives

  • Aligning organisational technology strategy with business mission and objectives

  • Developing and communicating architectural models to support decision-making

  • Undertaking stakeholder engagement and structured relationship management at senior levels

  • Assessing emerging technologies and advising on enterprise adoption strategies.

Desirable

  • Degree or formal qualification in a related discipline

Technical Skills

  • Experience producing formal technical documentation and reports

  • Acceptance test procedure development

  • Software development or test tool development exposure

  • Knowledge of deployable Defence Command and Control or tactical communications systems

  • Experience with EMI/EMC analysis

  • Familiarity with large-scale virtualised environments (e.g. ESXi)

  • Configuration and data management across hardware/software baselines
